Plan B recovers Mac in Dublin, Ireland

"I left my company owned MacBook in the back seat of a taxi on 2 November. I realized within the hour and I immediately activated the Undercover software. The next day I reported it missing to the police station."

"On Saturday 6 November, the person who had my MacBook (we will call him "user" from now on), managed to bypass my password and installed internet from O2. As soon as he logged onto the internet a snapshot was taken of him and my Mac's screen, then another one 8 minutes later."

"That evening my MacBook was taken to a new location, so when the new user logged on to the internet, I got a new set of snapshots showing me the new user and a new IP address. All this information was on my Undercover account. I was able to print it and give the information to the police. The officer in charge contacted the O2 internet provider to get names and street addresses for the 2 IP addresses. Unfortunately it seemed that either the police or O2 took a bit too long getting back to us."

"As seen on the Orbicule advert I then switched my MacBook's recovery mode to Plan B, which effectively locks the computer from being used until it is recovered by the owner. I activated this on the 10th of November and set a custom message with instructions on how to return my Mac. On Sunday 14th we received the first call by someone claiming to have bought this MacBook and having no idea that it had been 'stolen'. By checking my Undercover account, I knew that to be untrue as the same user was photographed once more by my MacBook, while he was in bed logging on to the internet at 4am! The onscreen message that the user had seen was informing him that the police had information of him and his location and that all we wanted was the MacBook returned in a good condition and working order."

"A day and 3 phone calls later - and after the user had tried to recover from me the 250EUR he had allegedly paid to buy my computer - we received the Mac. I had given them the option to drop it into a continent public place, which they did. It arrived by taxi on the 16th November in good condition and for the price of the taxi."

"So my laptop was returned in great order, cleaned, dusted and in the same bag I had left it in on the back seat of the taxi, thanks to Orbicule's software."
